The first step is then to draw up the lists with everything that needs to be done, without forgetting to also include the bureaucratic aspects that moving house entails. But even before you have to choose the indicative date of the move. A good idea is to carry out the move during the week: if you rely on a specialized company, in fact, the request is less and it will be easier to find availability.

60-40 days to move

If you have already created your to do list, now is the time to check it again, otherwise run to it. There are so many things to do!

Start searching online for the moving company for your area. Look at the website, look for the reviews and then call the ones that most convince you for an inspection and a quote. In this way you will be able to make an initial personal assessment of their organization, prepare an analysis of the logistics of the house and the quantity and type of furniture and objects to be moved. This is valuable information for an accurate drafting of the estimateand not to have any surprises on the price afterwards. What can you include in the quote? Packing of furniture contents, disassembly, moving, reassembly, landfill disposal, emptying of boxes with relocation of the furniture material, crane/ladder truck hire. Get the price for each individual item, so you can decide later what to include: you could find costs lower than expected and decide to intervene at the minimum, value for money; don’t forget the quality. If, on the other hand, you choose to be more active, after the inspection you will know what to do, thus avoiding unnecessary effort.

30-20 days to move

How many things you have at home will you take with you? This is the time to make a selection of what is to be kept, to be thrown away or which can be given away, sold or given to charity. Put sentimentality aside and act: what better occasion than moving to experience the benefits of decluttering ?

This operation is also a good way to establish whether to proceed personally with the packaging: if you opt for this solution, ask for the most suitable materials, well in advance. When packing objects, start with those you use the least and pay particular attention to delicate or valuable objects and furniture, for which you should draw up a separate list and take photos. Also, remember to divide the objects according to the rooms in which they will be placed and to indicate both the room and the contents on the box. This way, once you move into your new home, it will be much easier for you to rearrange everything.

To help the movers, you can create a plan of the new house with an indication of the rooms. Speaking of environments, have you checked the measurements of the furniture and the rooms where they will be placed? Always better check to avoid nasty surprises later. You have chosen the company that is right for you and established the services you need, but have you drawn up the contract ? This is the right moment. Finally, if you have to work in condominium spaces during the move, remember to communicate the date to the condominium administrator.

One week to move

It’s time to pack the last things. Also prepare a ‘ survival kit’ for the first few hours in the new home: this will be the only thing you will take with you on the day of the move. But is everything ready in the new house? Make sure that the premises are clean when you arrive, perhaps by contacting a cleaning company, and make arrangements with the plumber and electrician for any new connections.

The big day has arrived, but don’t think your homework is done. During the move you will first have to support the foreman to check that everything that needs to be transported has been loaded and then, once you arrive in the new home, give directions on where to place the furniture. When the operations are completed, the furniture has been reassembled and the boxes taken to the various rooms, it is time for the inspection to be carried out with the foreman and then proceed with the drafting of the end-of-work report. This is a very delicate phase in which to verify the presence of all the material, the absence of damage and in which to make any observations.
